OGGIONO (LC) – It did not stop last year, after the hardest months of the pandemic, and this year it is returning again as a sign of a recovery.

On October 3rd,which is a Sunday, at Oggiono in the Lecchese, the 93rd Piccolo Giro di Lombardia will commence.

It will be an international date for the most prestigious that will, once again, confront the most talented of the world of the under 23 category. The organizational direction known as Velo Club Oggiono presided by Daniele Fumagalli has been working with his team for several months now to prepare the event and to guarantee that it’s at the utmost standard regarding security in norm of the anti Covid-19 protocols.

The president Daniele Fumagalli of the Velo Club Oggiono states: “ We’re immensely proud of the role and importance that our event has gotten in the last ten plus years. With hard work, wilfulness and consistency we have grown, year after year, and we have been able to become a landmark on an international level. The most evident proof of this is the 2020 podium in which, for the first time in history , it had been completely foreign and included three different continents: in first place we had the Australian Harrison Sweeny, in second the Danish Jacob Hindsgaul and in third the Eritrean Yakob Debesay. Three highly skilled athletes that, for instance how it had happened while browsing through the pages of the roll of honour of runners, will be mentioned and talked about even in the future. Nevertheless, I believe that the biggest success that we reached last year was being able to organize this manifestation. It has not been simple organizing an international race, given the countless difficulties caused from the pandemic in 2020. However, with determination and wilfulness and the entirety of our group – specifies the president -, we have gone over the difficulties and with the usual passion that ignites us we’ve worked hard and we’ve lived another good and memorable edition. We’ll be back in the game this year. Unfortunately the economical and sanitary situation is still delicate, but with the uttermost attention to safety we’ve started again and we’re pushing forward. Cycling moves forward. Life goes forward. And we’re happy to be here with our event. We owe it to these youngsters and to their future. Everyone in the Oggiono community, like every year, will be dressing up for the special occasion. I have to give my thanks to the municipal administration, the institutions and the local authorities, our sponsors and all the collaborators and partners of the Velo Club Oggiono, who are the gas to our motor of our organization. Thank you to all the teams and to the young athletes that will arrive at our land to gift us, once again, strong emotions and performance.

With the contribution of all these components we are ready to live another day of good sport and to write a new page in the books of history with this wonderful race”, concludes Fumagalli.
