The international under 23 Tour of Lombardy has been presented the evening of 9th September 2017 in the historical centre of Oggiono (Lecco). For the 8th year in a row, the race will be organized by the Velo Club Oggiono, whose President is Daniele Fumagalli. The race for under 23 will take place on Sunday, 1st October on a distance of 174,700 kms, starting and ending in Oggiono. The route will be basically the same: there has been only a small changing due to the collapse of a bridge on the Milano - Lecco highway in 2016. The racers of the so-called “baby Lombardy” will have to face the rises of bevera, Sirtori, Madonna del Ghisallo (height 274, the roof of the competition), and of Marconaga di Ello. The challenge will snake across the districts of Lecco, Como, Monza Brianza and Bergamo. The participants will be presented to the public in Manzoni Place in Oggiono between 9:30 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. and the ranking will start at 12:00.
PRESENTATION PARTERRE – The “Gladiator” Andrea Taffi has been the patron of the presentation of the international under 23 Piccolo Giro di Lombardia . As a professional runner, he was awarded important ranks, among which the Tour of Lombardy which ended in Bergamo. At the presentation in Garibaldi Place, the city of Oggiono was represented by its mayor Roberto Ferrari, and by some councilmen. Gianantonio Crisafulli, national councilman, Fabio Perego, vice-president of the Regional Committee of Lombardy and Alessandro Bonacina, president of the FCI Local Committee of Lecco represented the Italian Cyclist Federation. The councilman Formenti represented the Lombardy region. There were also the kids and the managers of the Cyclist Union of Costa Masnaga, a local partnership that won the Nationa Meeting of the Young in 2017. The president of Velo Club Oggiono Daniele Fumagalli explained the route of the race and pointed out the increase in the internationality of the participants. “In the past – he said – we’ve had the Under 23 world champion competing in the race. We hope to see him also this year”. The models Maria Arreghini, from Oggiono, Valentina Spicchiarello, from Sesto San Giovanni and Laura Cocchi, from Cornate D’Adda, have contributed to the aesthetics of the presentation. The people of Oggiono are fond of this event: the city is ready to rally around the “baby Lombardy”.
