2018-10-02

OGGIONO (LC) - A year ago at the Piccolo Giro di Lombardia the young and promising Belgian rider Bjarne Vanacker of the EFC-L & R-Vulsteke team closed the race with great satisfaction in fifteenth place. A month later, on 6 November 2017, from Belgium, the tragic news arrived of the discovery of the 20 year old Belgian who died in his sleep.

A death that is as inexplicable as it is stinging which has also greatly affected the organizers of the Velo Club Oggiono. "When I called the general manager of his team and former professional Michel Pollentier to give him condolences - told the president of VC Oggiono Daniele Fumagalli -, he told me how Bjarne had come home from Oggiono excited about the beauty of the race and to be able to enter the first 15 classified of such an important race. When a boy so young is missing, it is always a tragedy and we are very sorry and for this reason we have decided to do something meaningful in his memory ".

Last year Bjarne Vanacker was competing in Oggiono with the number 100 backbone. This number will be withdrawn from the Piccolo Lombardia 2018. On the morning of Sunday 7 October, before the start of the international match for Under 23, the president will hand over the shirt to the Belgian team of the Little Lombardy with the number 100 just to remember Bjarne.
